ABS, TCS, and ESC required to pass inspection?
 

It appears my ABS control module needs to be replaced. My GM shop has not been able to find one in the past month.

Is one necessary to pass inspection -- could a Saturn Sky pass inspection without ABS, TCS, or ESC? Many vehicles do not have these safety features and pass. Is it possible to have a car start with them and be modified into one without?

Just looking for solutions.

I would imagine a car would not pass inspection if any of the originally installed safety equipment did not work. They probably scan for trouble codes as part of an inspection. I could be mistaken, ask them.

I have always been under the impression that any codes that light the service engine soon light are the only codes (OBD II) that will cause you to fail inspection. Basically, the p codes. They all directly or indirectly affect operation of the engine, control of air fuel mixture, affect the exhaust gas makeup, etc.

I know people that have had their car legitimately inspected for years with an ABS light lit. Eventually it was not lit when I finally convinced my neighbor it would be better to have an airbag as opposed to a steering wheel-shaped dent in his forehead.

Many of these safety enhancements can be manually disabled with buttons on the dash, so that also leads me to believe their correct operation is not required to pass inspection. Just like the TRAC button you use to disable traction control on an S car when you need to rock it back and forth in the snow to get free.
