97 sc2 w/p0300 code
 

well the service engine soon light came on today. went to the local auto store and ran a scan through it and came back p0300 "random misfire". idles and drives fine, doesnt seem to hesitate on acceleration much if it all, coolant temp is on par. ran sea foam through it right away and a mix of 87 and 89 octane. so i am really not sure where to start and this is my first saturn so i am in "uncharted territory". its a 1997 sc2 with the 1.9 in it, 186xxx miles on it. seems the most practical place to start with is plugs and wires....?

after sitting over night the light is gone and the vehicle is still running fine, any ideas???? anyone??????

Could be the start of the "infamous" ECTS starting to go south. That sum beech causes more problems on the 1.9 than anything else. Except for someone never checking the oil level. The DOHC engine sure loves it's oil. I'm running 20w-50 in mine. It doesn't get cold enough here anymore for me to worry about anything thinner.

stock NGK plugs and wires if you can get them (GM dealers)

over the weekend i had an oil change done, swapped out plug wires and put in new NGK copper plugs (the old plugs were wore down a bit and starting to corrode over), replaced the pcv valve and grommet which were both full of gunk. it was -10 this morning so ill have to wait till spring to go to a thicker oil for now its 5-30. will keep updating as i go along but for now the light has not come back. how tough is it to do the ECTS? it wont get above 0 for the next couple days so heat wont be an issue lol.

ECTS can be changed out in under 10 minutes. Soldering in the new pig tail will take a few extra, but not much if you're handy with the soldering iron.
