Default 96 no spark, no injector pulse

96 sc2 has no spark and no injector pulse, bought 2 manuals 1 chilton (1991-2002) and 1 haynes (1991-1996) both have wiring diagrams up to 95..... kind of makes it a little hard to trouble shoot because it shows 11 wires to the ing. mod. and both my 96 and 97's only have 5 wires. has anyone come across an updated wiring diagram?

I suspect bad crank position sensor (CPS)--this will inhibit spark. Not sure if the lack of CPS signal to the PCM would also lead to the inhibition of injector pulse from the PCM

thanks, can you check the CPS with a DMM or is there a better way, i have an oscope if needed. any idea on an up to date wiring diagram? id like to check the signal at the PCM.

Yes you can check the CPS with a DMM. Disconnect the wires, and make a reading. It must fall between 700 and 900 ohms. If not, replace it

the CPS is fine but the fact that some critter chewed through both the wires was a porblem. now its running fine. Obviously no signal from the CPS was the problem but why was there no injector pulse?

If I were designing the PCM logic, I wouldn't send an injector pulse to throw fuel into a cylinder if I didn't know where the crank was in its rotation -- my two cents anyway...

Glad you are up and running again

Ocean Archer makes a note to add an additional step at each oil change --> spray all wiring with liquid Rid-a-Pest ...

of course, the CPS sends the signal to the ECM, that makes sence. for some reason i was invisioning only the CPS and the ignition mod. thanks.

Your 96 is a dis system right?? are you sure its working if its not getting a signal from the pcm then that would also cause no spark and if the pcm is fine and its the sensor on the dis then it would also lead to no spark... well good luck
