95 sc1 shift cable bushing
so yesterday on way to work my shift cable bushing went out so like i said in my intro i replaced but it was dark so i didnt notice that all the teeth on the top half of bushing had broke off so ive got another one order should be in at 1130 where my question lies is someone told me that instead of replacing it that you could actually tap the shift arm and put a bolt in with 2 washers would this be a bad idea or is there somthing else i could do or do they have a better version cause to me it seems like a very weak part

not to cloud the issue but there are alternative solutions on ebay but I'm told they tend not to last and many require you to modify the original shifter. Neither does the NAPA part (bushing only) if your cables are stretched since the cables will put the same stress on the replacement bushing as the original.
That's why GM will only sell you a (bushing + cables) kit --they know a bushing-only solution doesn't last for the reasons stated above
