2001 SL2 Power Steering Pump Pulley exploded.

The power steering pump on my '01 SL2 literally exploded on the freeway the night before thanksgiving. I have the new one, but can't figure out how the hub comes off the shaft. I know there is a hex bolt in there, but can't seem to get it to break loose even with a cheater pipe... Is this thing right threaded instead of left?

Look at, and envision which way the pump spins during normal operation ... the hex bolt will spin the same direction to tighten it's lock on the pulley

I admit to being a dummy here... Not certain of the direction of rotation here. I think its clockwise... Not sure...

What way does your engine turn, now what way would the belt turn the pump when it's bolted to the engine?

Got the pump pulled... Getting the pulley swapped now.

Okay, got it all done by Saturday afternoon. And a couple of items to note...

#1. There is no fastener holding the pulley to the shaft. It is a press fit, and requires a puller / press to swap over.

#2. Paying attention to the manual is a good idea. There isn't enough room under the hood to reattach the power steering lines with the pump in the car, you MUST remove the lines from the steering gear / rack below and then pump from above, then remove / reattach the lines...

#3. Swapping the pulley / pump was the easy part. Getting that *#%# belt back on was a different story all together...

Oh well, at least it is back together, and I am driving it now... Driving my F150 4x4 is a ton of fun, but I HATE feeding it...
