2001 L300 - where is heater control valve ?

I have a 2001 L300. I recently started losing coolant. I could also smell it as the engine got hot.

My local mechanic said it is a leaking heater control valve, right by the firewall,, where two hoses go in. Said the coolant flows into the heater there.

I have been trying to find a part called " heater control vavle " for the 2001 saturn L300 but cannot find one.

Might this part have another name?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not so sure you have a heater control valve. I've looked at both Autozone and Advance Auto parts websites and neither show one for that car. I'm guessing it's computer controlled or a GM dealer part only. Anyone else know for sure?

Allow me please to quote directly from the Chilton Manual for the Saturn L- series. This is found on page three of section three:

.."V6 models are equipped with an electric heater core pump thet circulates coolant into the heater core for direct and fast heating action.
The heater core pump is an electrically operated pump designed to circulate coolant directly to the heater core for faster response. The heater core pump is mounted on the back of the engine block between the heater hoses and the block outlet."

I tried to find a picture for you, but was unsuccessful ...

Just an idea, seems it would pay to buy the basic repair manual for any car you drive.
