2000 Saturn SL2
 

I just bought a 2000 saturn sl2, and was told that the reason it wasn't starting was the battery. so I replaced the battery, and nothing, it acts like it wants to start, it will crank but not turn over. I started checking the fuses and found the fuse to the fuel pump was blown, changed it, tried again,nothing. So I then changed the fuse in the panel in the car, and the relay and also the Maxifuse under the hood, and once again nothing. So I am wondering if it might be the fuel pump. Anyone else ever had this issue? I am not sure if I want to invest the money into a fuel pump and find out that it wasn't the problem. Help please! Thanks in advance

search engine coolant temperture sensor (ECTS)

Get somewhere it is quiet, turn off radio and blower fan. Turn the key to "ON" and listen carefully for fuel pump. Or, if you have one, put fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail, and make sure you have fuel pressure.

Cranks and turns over are the same thing ........ It doesn't start. Could be many things including fuel and the ETCS, or it's connector.

did fuel pump fuse blow again after replacement?

@Derf, the fuse blew twice, after I replaced it the 2nd time, I didn't try it again. where is the ECTS located?

The fuse to the fuel pump should tell you something if it keeps blowing.

It would appear that you have a short in the fuel pump wiring.

I guess some how I do not understand the logic behind this statement. The fuse blew twice and then you did nothing about checking to see if it blew again?
This does not make sense. Is or is not the fuse blown? If it is, the fuel pump is not going to work. so checking for something else is not going to fix anything.

I believe this was stated before but the easiest way to see if the fuel pump is working is to turn everything else off and then turn the key to the on position without trying to crank it. If the fuel pump is working properly you should be able to hear it easily.
