Hi, my car is overheating due to the cooling fan not coming on. My car is
fine when I am moving but in stop and go it overheats unless I turn on the
heat. I have swapped the two relays and that didn''t do anything and I
hooked the fan directly to the battery and it turned on so here I am, looking
for you to tell me what to do.

Hi there -

This is not an uncommon problem, and one easily remedied. Replace the Coolant Temp Sensor (about $14usd). Part is obtainable from most automotive parts stores. This is the two-wire sensor located on the left side of the engine.

Couple of other points to consider, 1) use TEFLON tape on the threads of the new sensor; 2) When you buy the new part, make sure itdoes not have a resin coated tip (these seem to fail much easier than the one with a full metal shroud); 3) Think seriously about replacing the connector that hooks up to the sensor (these become weak, loose, corroded over time, and can cause false indications; 4) Make sure the engine is COLD when you relace the sensor

And depending on the year of your Saturn, make sure you replace the correct temperature sensor.
