Short Throw Shifter?
I was thinking about short shifting my car but I don't know how to do it exactly. If anyone can help by giving some advice or by making one for me lol.
|
Im in the process of doing this, im just cutting the shifter. I did it on another shifter i had from the junk-yard but I cant put it in since the boot clips are broken and it would look fugly.
Maybe get a junkyard shifter as well so if you mess up youll still have a shifter Ill let you know how well it works, although I wont get to do it for abit |
Aight cool, I'll check it out. I might go to the junkyard today. I might get a couple because knowing me I will screw it up lol. Let me know how it works out for you.

i did it to mine. i just cut it in half, and shortened up the boot a bit. looks and works great
|
how did you shorten the boot? did you take it off the top or bottom?
|
took it off the top. and i know this dont sound manly, but after i cut the top i just i sewed it back together
|
Just cutting the shaft of the shifter will not make a ( short throw shifter). All that will do is change the hight of your shift knob, and with less leverage it might even be harder to shift. Looking at my Astra being front wheel drive I'm not sure how they would make a true short throw for it. Id like to have one for my car.

I'm not trying to change the height that much, I really want a short throw shifter.

I know how it works, however the top half of the shifter on the s-series is ridiculously long in my opinion, so cutting it will help either way, even if it doesn't make shifts shorter it makes them less sloppy since there is alot of play in these shifters..
Unfortunately they dont exist anymore for these cars (and apperently they really never did), or your very, very good at searching, or you make it yourself. Im doing some digging and looking for instructions. http://www.saturnspot.com/showthread.php?t=25474 These guys claim to make a short throw, however in the picture it looks like a stock shifter. I've emailed them to see if I can get some more pictures and information. http://www.villagemachiningservice.com/page04.html |
