Engine additives and battery foam?

Hey SF! I am installing a new battery tomorrow and wondered: do any of you have some cheap foam wrapped around the battery? I've never seen this before, so if it's not needed I would like to 86 it. An auto parts store guy claims it's to keep the battery warmer in the winter?

Also, does anyone use any fuel or oil additives on their Saturn? I've been told a STP fuel additive to clean the injectors works nice, and to consider an oil additive to clean the valves. This seems...? I've heard both good and bad; thoughts appreciated!

the foam silliness is supposed to shield the battery from excessive engine heat. Maybe,
as far as additives, it's your call. I'd be more concerned with keeping the oil level up than what I'm adding to it

I run a little Seafoam thru my engines sometimes if I think there's a ticking sound that may be lifter related. And I do run an occasional bottle of Techron fuel injector cleaner thru my gas tank every 10,000 miles or so. I've never had an injector problem.

OEM battery installation came with foam jacket to retard heat transfer. Personally, I don't have it on any of my cars, but the, I live in the south -- it don't get too cold here
