Default 2001 sl2 no start condition

working on my neighbors car .a 2001 sl2 .it has a no start condition .once and awhile it will start .
today during the no start i tried putting my code reader on it (obd-II)the reader would not even power up .
so right away i,m thinking ,bad computer.

what you think??/the code reader should start right up when i plug it in .

just so you know i cleaned all the fuses related to computer operation, the comp ground as well.

is there anything else i should be checking ?fusible link?a fuse i overlooked?
i could not get it started .

but she can every once and awhile .like maybe after it sits awhile.it started once today but she shut it off befor i could test the reader on it .then we couldnt get it going again .

any help??

just means engine stalled while running.

Does it crank with no start or is there no cranking with no start?

the car cranks fine ,if you put the gas to the floor it will sometimes start .has stalling issues .almost like its not getting gas .took it for a ride and it has power but nearly sputtered out and died on me .made it back and it died.
still got wires to put on but its raining pretty good now .

Sounds like the ECTS and associated connector need to be replaced. Cost is about $40 usd, and a couple of hours of your time. Be sure to use Teflon tape on the threads of the new sensor, and be sure the sensor is the one with a metal tip. Resin tipped sensors are not robust, and go bad quickly ...

ECTS -- Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

A two-wire sensor located on the driver's side of the engine just below the thermostat housing

That "little item" adjusts the air/fuel mixture ratio of the engine via the computer. It does this for maximum fuel efficiency. It is an active device, but often will not throw a code
