Default Enigine dies at stops!

I have a 2006 Saturn Ion with the 2.2 eco-tech, 103,000 miles. Sometimes when we come to a stop the engine just quits, cranks right back up. Doesn't die running down the road just when coming to a stop and sometimes just when you give it the gas to go. You can watch the tach and as soon as you let off the gas, it drops and fast, ( my old GTO didn't drop that fast) not sure if it's normal on this car. Does it when the car is warm or cold, A/C on or off. The engine light used to come on and we always get cylinder 2 mis-fire, have gotten this code since the car had 30,000 miles on it but no one, including the dealer knows why. The light is intermittent, sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn't, it never had any effect on engine performance either. Changed the plugs at 100,000 miles and switched around wires to see if that might be it, but code still came up and again, not sure if this code is even related to the dieing part. It started dieing about 10,000 miles ago, 8 to 12 months ago and engine runs great(until we stop) and again it doesn't do this all the time. We're getting 26 mpg in town and runs smooth, just acts up at stops and only sometimes. Any help is greatly appreciated and if any more info is needed, just ask. Thanks

Could be dirty fuel injectors. I'd try running a bottle of Techron fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank. It sounds fuel related to me.

Ran 2 tank fulls with injector cleaner and still dies at stops, no new codes or lights. I agree it sounds, and feels, fuel related but can't put my finger on it. I changed the fuel filter and air filter. Any ideas?

No vacumm leaks. I did look at the throttle body and it looked a little gunky, any ideas on how to clean it? I was going to take it off and spray it with carb and choke cleaner, is that a good idea, course, I couldn't figure out how to get the electrical plug off either, took the little clasp off but it still wouldn't budge, it could just be stuck from 5 years and 104,000 miles also.

Cleaning the throttle body is always a good idea if it looks dirty. Just make sure to get some TBI cleaner and don't use the carb and choke cleaner. It's my understanding that a throttle body has some type of coating inside that regular carb cleaner will strip off. I don't know that for a fact, so take it as you will. Advance Auto Parts sells the throttle body cleaner and it's about the same price as regular carb cleaner. If you just remove the air pipe going to it and start the car, you can clean it while it's running. Just spray it in short bursts and not a steady stream. At least that's how I cleaned the throttle body on my 99 Grand Caravan.
