Default Old thread I know. But hear me out. 2004 Ion 2 sedan manual swap to 2003 quad cvt

Ok so I have a 2004 4 door 5 speed ion 2 with the 5;speed manual. There is a prestine 2003 quad coupe with 130k with the cvt that's showing signs of acting up. My ion has 99k, compression test showed 220-225 across all 4 cylinders. Uses no oil and has great power. The quad can be had for 800. It still drives, but you can tell the cvt is on borrowed time. The sedan has some cosmetic issues, and some electrical gremlins but is otherwise great mechanically. I just put a clutch in it 5k miles ago.

My thought was this.... Completely swap drivetrains, just drop both subframes and swap. Use the manual ecu and transfer over all the manual components of course. I like the sedan, but the quad is just in such great shape and looks awesome inside and out. Is it worth doing? I have the donor car (obviously) and any and all parts needed to convert. Since I know the sedans engine and transmission is in great shape, it would probably be easier and faster just to just leave the engine and transmission attached to the manual subframe and bolt it up to the cvt ion. I'll have an extra Ecotec to build up later on.

All wiring front to back would have to be swapped over.
well. So I would think.
Look at accessories for the bcm(which needs to be swapped as well)
sun roof, electric locks/windows etc
may not need to swap the body harness. But be prepared to do so just in case.

Lastly. You would need to mod the firewall for the clutch master cylinder and the clutch pedal/bracket.

Would he not also need the cluster married to the BCM he transferred over?

Is the base wiring harness compatible with the BCM he is transferring over?

Will the BCM actually marry to the cluster from the previous year?

I cannot see a coupe and a sedan having the same base wiring harness. Doors, power windows, airbags, etc. Highly doubt it.

Most of my comments are questions. The rest is speculative. I have not tried what you are proposing. What I am doing is pulling from quite a few years of experience of different folks coming through and asking if certain swaps can be done.

Any swap can be done given enough money and enough time and effort. The question is how far do you want to go with it and how much sense does it make in your case?
