Default Speedometer inop

Hi guys, I took my granddaughter's 97 SL2 for a test drive and noticed that the speedo doesn't work. All the other gauges work. I checked the connections at the rear of the instrument panel which seems okay, but have no idea where the speed sensor is located. Any idea's?? All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

ok this is the third time I'm typing this

would expect a P0500-0502 if VSS circuit malfunctioning.
SES light on?

There are electronics integral to the dash that process the speedo signal and drive the stepper motor for the odo. Does the odo work?

Location of VSS is on the right side of the tranny bellhousing (towards back of car)--yellow and purple wires I believe

I'll have check and see if the odometer works tomorrow. I do have a SES light on. I have the VSS from the old tranny I can try. I think the speedo worked before I replaced the tranny. Thanks Derf.
