I received a 2002 SL1 as a gift about nine months ago. Since then I've been trying locate an oil dipstick for it. Not surprising they no longer make the original part but finding a replacement or junkyard pick has been unsuccessful as well. I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to give me the dimensions so I could possibly purchase a universal that would fit. Thanks.

 

You don't need dimensions. Get a universal one. Then do an oil and filter change and put in 4 quarts. Run the engine for a minute, let it sit for 5 minutes. The insert the dipstick with the collar in the default place. Compare the oil level to the markings on the stick and move the collar a corresponding amount. Recheck and repeat as needed. The lock the collar down and you are done.

 

Great idea. I just did the oil today so if I pick up a dipstick tonight I should be good to go.
