Default Saturn L300 Oil in Coolant

Hey guys,

Just wanted some of your opinions on this issue I got. At first when I got the vehicle, it was fine and only was leaking coolant slowly, so every couple weeks I would add coolant. I thought it was a minor issue that could be taken care of later. But then small amounts of oil was found in the coolant reservoir. I thought it was transmission fluid, until later, when more of it started to appear in brown milkshake form, that it was indeed engine oil.

I read a couple threads stating how the oil cooler is most likely the culprit, but no real follow-ups on the forum. Most of the guys that posted their problem are now banned. (Don't know why)

Any suggestions from the Saturn veterans would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Helps if we know the year of your L300. I'm guessing 2001-2003.

Oil cooler issues in the 2001-2003 timeframe were known to cause coolant leaks due to sealant issues combined with manufacturing assembly issues. It is rare but has been documented that oil has gotten into the coolant via the oil cooler by slipping past bad seals, I believe.

Is there coolant in your oil too (check for milkshake on dipstick) ?

Sounds more like a head gasket slowly deteriorating.
What are the compression readings on all 6 cyls.?

(Please look up on the net how to properly perform a compression test. You'd be surprised how many people are doing it slightly incorrectly, and it DOES lead to a measurable error)
