Security Light and Gauge Problem
#1
Hello,
My mom has a 2001 L-Series with automatic transmission that is causing her troubles. I looked at it yesterday, and hoping someone here has a suggestion ...
Car started fine, drove it around with no problems. Put it in parkwith the engine running to charge the battery, and sawboth the fuel and temp gauges drop to the "off" (far counter-clockwise) position. The odometer backlight still worked. A second later, the "SECURITY" light came on, and the automatic transmission thumb lock would not depress.
After a few seconds, the gauges came back up, the SECURITY light went off, and the transmission thumblock would depress and allow me to shift into gear.
This happened a few more times.
Any comments or suggestions? Trying to save her a trip to the dealership service department if I can.
Thanks from a newbie.

I agree with sw2cam fully, there''s a loose or bad cable in your primary system. Especially check that all the ground cables are tight and in good shape, these often get overlooked and can drive you right up a wall searching for "ghosts" in the machine ...
