Exclamation ION No Start Cold

May get a passlock light may not.

When you turn the key and get nothing and try 5 more times or come back to the car and try 10-30 mins later and it starts right up you may very well be dealing with the Ignition Cylinder that came from the factory with excessive grease. The type of grease when cold will not let the car start.

Some people are able to remove the switch and clean excessive grease while others find they need to replace the cly and tumblers with a new one that has a new type of grease that will not interfere with the car starting.

So whats the deal? Remove from car and clean up extra grease reinstall and see if thats an end to your problem. If not replace the cylinder assembly as shown in picture.

Ive had mine replaced twice( broke my key in the ignition..twice, it got stuck) but I still have that problem when its cold where she wont start. I found the cheapest and easiest fix is to take a hair dryer and heat the key up a bit. Car starts right up for me every time

I'm so glad I found this! I think this might just be my problem. We thought maybe the theft protection sensor was off, so I switched keys and still the same thing. Everything comes on except for the engine, and I did notice that it's only been happening when it's cold.

ION keys do not have a chip in them.

Stop in the new member area and give yourself an introdution. When done with that take a few moments to go to the USER CP top left of the page and add your first name, location, and car info to your "signature".

Thats why we post things and make them a sticky. Thats why things are made stickies on most forums. Glad you did a bit of reading and found a possibility to your problem. I wish more people would take the time to search and read before asking questions. Saturns have been around 22 years and there are those people that are to lazy to search & read. So they ask a question thats been asked 1,000 times.
