Info on aftermarket Stereo
I recently picked up a 2008 Astra xr and love it. However,it had a single din stereo installed with no steering wheel controls. I have looked for a replacement but am hesitant to pull the trigger. There doesnt seem to be any company out there (at least not that I can find) that has a unit for a Saturn Astra with all the bells and whistles, but a Vauxall/Opel unit seem to be available. Are they plug and play with the Saturns? Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.

The only way I see to verify that is by contacting the technical assistance folks at the co that makes the aftermarket unit. If there is essentially 1 aftermarket upscale chance of a solution, you'll be the 998th to ask the same question of them.
Since it will end up being an overseas purchase and likely cost prohibitive to return unless defective, be sure to get in writing -- either an ad they provide you with or, better, a statement that the unit is 100% compatible with your SATURN Astra. That way, if it ends up not to be true, you have something to fight back with

I swear they haven't paid me a single dime (but they should) for saying this.
But if you go to Crutchfield, they will have good information on what radios fit what car, what accessories, dash kits, wiring harnesses, etc are needed to get that radio to work. I also remember a few years back that some offered an adapter to hook up to steering wheel controls to some head units. I don't remember which manufacturer it was, you'll have to go digging.
Even if you don't buy from them, their website has a lot of useful information to take with you. Also check out YouTube. There might be another Astra owner out there that has posted a video on radios and where to get them.
