I know, I know. It's crazy. Long story... Is the conversion from manual to auto pretty do-able? Require an ECM swap? Thanks in advance!

 

Seems like no one can help you here. That's cause none of us have tried it. 99.9% of tranny swaps on s cars are auto to manual to get the flexibility/fun/etc of driving a 5 spd. Internet search was not fruitful either.

I believe PCM would need to be switched and would need to be programmed for the options of the receiving car. Seems like it you were going to attempt this you'd be best off getting a donor auto car of the same vintage which would have all the odds n ends you would need to do it.

Check the swap guide sticky at the beginning of this forum section to see which transmission you're after. Be aware that you're talking old old car with little OEM or aftermarket parts support -- so you may wish to reconsider.
