1998 Saturn SC2 sunroof

The sunroof on my '98 SC2 won't open, I think it may be the motor but I just wanted some opinions on what it might be. Thanks

First, check your fuses - sometimes they look good but you can't always see a hairline crack.

If you are hearing a err, err, click sound and nothing happens on both open and close, the motor gear is stripped. My gear is bad so I have the same problem. I did discover a way to "pop" it open and fully close it manually at least on my '01.

Do these at your own risk pretty much but steps are as follow for what I use. Tool Required, hands and a straight screwdriver.

1. When closed just push up on the back and it "pop" up about 3 inches. You will notice that the supports will stand up nearly straight, that is good. You have it open as far as it will go.

Now to close it.

2. Take the straight screwdriver and stand outside the car. On both sides of the sunroof(driver and passenger) you will notice a small slider that has moved to the front of the car(gray color on mine). Slide it to the back of the car as far as it goes (about an inch) on both sides. THE ROOF WILL CLOSE SO WATCH YOUR FINGERS.

3. Now go into the car and use the straight screwdriver again. Underneath the glass you will notice that the support that was up before is down now. Just slide both the driver and passenger supports to the front on the car, watch the glass so you dont hit it (you may need some force) to move it btw. You will notice that it will drop the rest of the way closed.

4. Step out of the car and just push the glass down from above to make sure its sealed.

I can do this in about 2 minutes, practice made perfect. I will post pictures tomorrow of what I am explaining. As I said before do at your own risk. I dont know if this would further damage the mechanism as I know I am never gunna fix mine.

Hope this helps.
