2001 sc2 won't start! please help!!!

Okay, here's the deal. My 2001 saturn sc2 wouldn't start one day at the store after being parked for a few minutes. After a few minutes and a few attempts to start it, it started up.
Here's the symptoms- Turn the key and everything lights up but won't start, it's EXACTLY like not having the clutch pushed in. Nothing at the starter, but you can hear the fuel pump kick in. It does this intermittently, sometimes it will start, sometimes, it won't. I can push start it.
I replaced the clutch safety switch, didn't work. Took it to a mechanic who said I needed a new starter. He replaced the starter $300 (ouch) and it worked for 3 days and went to doing the same thing. Mechanic took it back and said the starter was fine but put a new one in anyways and it still wouldn't start, he said he didn't know what the problem was.
Push started it and drove to a friends house. He spliced the wires from the clutch safety switch and wiggled some wires under the dash behind the wheel. Car started fine and drove for a week and now it's doing the same thing again!
I have no idea what it is, and apparently neither does my mechanic. I don't think the battery's bad, I jumped it off my friends truck and it still wouldn't start.
On a side note, the key wouldn't turn in the lock cylinder, had to wiggle the wheel and wiggle the key to get it to turn, I pulled the old spare out which was never used and that worked a lot better for turning the key, but the car still won't start.
But now I'm stranded, it's 10 at night and I NEED my car for tomorrow... please help.

when it won't start, is the starter engaging and spinning the engine? IF not, sounds like ignition switch issue which you will have to fenagle with until you can get it sorted out
