When sitting at a traffic light that is longer than usual the gauge sometimes moves toward the hot level, it has never run hot though. When I drive again it will go all the way back to the middle/center. Could it be the fan? What are the major concerns with this model? Thanks for your help/input!

well, when you get home, and sit in front of the residence, does it do it then? if so, pop the hood and see if the fans are spinning...if it really is ovberheating, you will hear a bubbling sound...

When your car is sitting there its not moving very much air so your temp will increase since normally the temp gauge reads in the middle this is okay your fan will kick on at about the 3/4 mark on the gauge and it will cool the car down pretty quick or if you get scared and want the to turn the fan on yourself turn on the a/c if your car has it this will turn the fan on instantly

My sl2 does the same thing I have to "jump start" my fan by pushing the
a/c button turning the air all the way on then turn it back off. My fan
comes on after i do that and it seems to work but if i dont my fan wont
kick on at all. When I am driving it is never a problem though only when i am idling for 5 min or so without moving

On older Saturns, the fan was not designed to come on until it's almost into the red. A lot of Saturn types say this isn't a problem. I don't know if this is true, but I was told the fan "on" temp is at 229 degrees. Personally I don't see the need to run your car over 190. There are several ways to keep it below 200, Turn on your AC, install a manual fan switchor installadjustable fan switch, there are several typesavailable. I've got a adjustable on my 95', it works great!Edited by: stevestar99

On my saturn it will go past 3/4 before the fan comes on. If it goes all the way to the red you may need a temp sensor like I did once. Like the other guy said, once you turn on your air conditioner, it forces the fan to stay on until the engine is turned off.
