Hello all,

As this is my first post let me say thanks for the welcome, and i am not new to saturns, i previously owned a 91SC2 that appearantly was a factory freak-14.5@93mph??????? yeah dont ask lol. Anyways i have the opprotunity to purchase a 1998 SL2 for cheap as a good daily driver. The only thing stopping me to this point is the fact that the girl says that if she is in traffic for a good period of time the engine RPM's skyrocket without warning......i was thing IAC or TPS but im not positive as it has been 5 yrs since i owned or opened up a saturn. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Deg

Wouldn't let that problem stop you from buying the car. As you stated, one of the sensors may be the problem. Cracked coolant temperature sensor/corroded CTS wiring harness/gummed up throttle body/sticking EGR valve / if it sets a SES light you can get a better idea of the cause.

Are you sure she didn't say/mean the temp </span>goes up while sitting in traffic? This of course is normal....

Haven't heard of this one before....

A fairly common problem, Its most likely the IAC or a vacuum leak. My bet is the IAC. I'd pull off the IAC and clean it. Just dont soak it in anything. Might as well clean the back side of the throttle body and as much of the inside of the intake manifold as you can as well.
