i own a 95 saturn sc1, and i was wondering could i take the cyclinder head from a sc2 which is dohc, and just swap it directly on my engine?? is that possible? what is involved in that?

I've done exactly what you are describing. The only differences in the block is that the DOHC has pistons with"eyebrows" out near the edge for valve clearance, while the SOHC has a dished piston. The DOHC valves will NOT clear the SOHC piston as the dish does not go close enough to the edge of the piston. This dish is the reason that the DOHC has a 9.5:1 comp ratio and the SOHC is 9.3:1. I clamped my assembled SOHC block onto a milling machine and milled the eyebrows into the pistons. The only other difference is the timing chain tensioner for the DOHC (same tensioner) bolts to the head instead of the block.

My point was simply that it's not a simple swap....if you want to go for it, go for it -- don't know why you'd want to go to all that effort....
