the strange thing is i live in fort collins colorado, and ive seen alot of the relays around. Not a ton, about as many as common as a 90's corvette, but theyre out there

derf
09-16-2009, 07:27 PM
so all 14 have migrated to colorado.......

Do you know if they are planning a move to Utah to live as Mormons?

haha, well the funniest thing about those cars is that i saw them driving around right after their bail out plan sized advertising attempt.... but not anymore

Wish they all went to the mormons cause those thing can hold more than the legal limit of 2 year olds.

Relay was the first attempt by GM to kill SATURN
Astra was the final attempt by GM to kill SATURN

The Astra did it's job.

Sun of a gun, I saw two of these this week. They were driving down he road next to me.
What is interesting at least to me. I went to look at them when they came out. I was in the market for a new van at the time. Thinking in terms of Saturn being a small car, the van was huge and not what I expected. And frankly rather ugly in my opinion. But the thing that turned me off was Saturns fixed price philosophy, they wanted over $30,000 for the thing. Shortly after words I bought a new Chrysler T&C for 22k, a better deal and stow and go interior.

Not the best GM rig forced on Saturn, kinda like the Astra.

My Wife got an 05 Relay, put 63,000 miles on it in two years then somehow I ended up driving it. Wasn't bad since it had all the bell and whistles, but it was still a mini-van. Eventually I got my own VUE...

Darn thing about the Relay was that we had the front end stabilizers replaced five or six times. Don't know why it was eating stabilizers, but they finally got it right...(no charge of course)...

24.5.....

auto trader says there are 214 for sale right now.

since the vehicle was clearly popular, we'll assume that 2/3 of the relays we already counted were traded in on something "more better" - like pretty much anything-- but then immediately sold to unsuspecting purchasers who thought they were buying a real minivan. So the 2/3 are not part of the 214 because the current owners haven't relisted them for sale out of sheer embarrassment .....

Running count:214+24.5=238.5

(I was going to check ebay and the like, but I didn't want to spend the time crossref'ing VINs to avoid duplicates.......)

At the time and needing a new van and owning and happy with a Saturn I drove by to see what was going on and saw;
An over priced, butt ugly, badge engineered Chevy Van with Saturns infamous no haggle price.
So
I bought a new Chrysler at 2/3 that number with seats that folded into the floor and never regretted it.

GM can not get a mini van right no matter what name they put on it. But adding the Saturn logo to that turd was almost as bad as adding the Saturn logo to the biggest turd of all. The Opel Asturd 1.8L slug.

Taking my dogs to the Vet last Friday, I saw one of these things. I was actually in the market for a new van when they came out or shortly afterwards I guess. So I went to look at them. At the time I did not realise I needed a full size van, which this is and expected to see something the size of an Astra which I would have bought. I did not expect to see anything as ugly as it was. Bells and whistles besides it was not a looker.
AND pricey. About a year ago I saw one of these badged as a Caddy Excalade. The name did not improve the looks. And talking to my friend in Northern AZ and runs a shop there, they just installed an engine in one. As he said, just like a Chevy. But he also says the local dealers in his area are just blowing off major repairs on the newer Saturns, way too hard to get parts for them.
S cars?
Still the easiest car in the world to repair. But they are dissappearing now. The hardest? according to him. Izusu's. Almost impossible to get parts for some models.

I live about 100 miles from the Saturn plant in Spring Hill, TN and have never seen one at all. I find that ironic.

I agree. A few months ago I only knew about cars, not how to work on them. Now I have taken one of the S cars apart, and taken mine half apart and put it back together. it still beats hondas off lights.

However, there must be alot more here in jersey than near you, since I see quite a few every day. (however 99% of them are stock :(

Onto topic. I do see one or two saturn relays a week in my random commute. Theres only three of them as far as I know, I always see one of 3 colors (must be a mom since I see them on my way to and from class)

:pI live about 100 miles from the Saturn plant in Spring Hill, TN and have never seen one at all. I find that ironic.

But! On the other hand I had never seen the Postal S Car until I visited my friend just south of you. The postman drive their own cars and Bubba had one.
He said that Saturn manufactured a number of them and tried to get a postal contract ***** and didn't so they sold them through there factory sales.
And he bought 2 of them. One is still stashed (as of a couple of years ago) and when he wore the 1st one out he'd start driving the 2nd.

I dunno, seems to me this was a project that should have worked and did not. The S cars when new had personality and appeal, at least to me anyway and in 91 when I needed a car to drive for a service business I worked for owners I talked to who I would see in parking lots raved about them
The problem at the time, which is why I did not get one then was they did not have a station wagon (or I don't remember that they did because I really wanted a coupe) and the fixed sale marketing placed them at about 1/3 more than the competition for a similar car.
I ended up with a Mitsubishi Van which is what I really needed whether I wanted it or not and it was (as I remember) some $4000 cheaper at the time. As I remember it was $10,000 out the door with an optional $1000, 100,000 mile warrenty and I ended up driving 270,000 miles and bought my Saturn Coupe later 2 years old and used.
And I still have it.

We had about 10 postal right hand drive SW2's sold via our store. The gal that delivers my mail now owns three of them all white in color. She was a good customer of ours and two of the TECH's from my store have a shop where they keep her SATURNS serviced along with many others.

PS Saturn came out with the SW in 1993. I had three SW2's. 93/98/2001. Why in the hell I ever got rid of my 2001 I'll never know. I was a dumb ass.
