could it be a knock sensor?

How much mileage on your L300, and when was the last time the intake system was serviced ??

87000. I just replaced the oil cooler. when I put the top end back together it started right up. them I changed the tranny filter and now its hard to start. It cranks for about a minute before I hear it fire. when I do get it started it runs rough like the choke isnt on. then if I turn it off, remove the key and start it again it runs at a high idle like its supposed to.

Hmmmm ... sounds like a shorted engine coolant temperature sensor. Replace that, and your problems will probably disappear
