hi everyone, my first post here. I couldn't start my car tonight. Upon turning
the ignition I just get a fast clicking sound, all the lights on the dash light up
as normal when starting the car, but no turnover. Any clue what the
problem is? I've been told may be the battery or the starter. I just drove in
from out of town last night (running AC in fairly bad So. Cal heatwave),
about 100 miles but with no problem whatsoever...but now won't start...and
its a holiday weekend so no access to mechanics...aaargh!! thanks in
advance for any feedback. It's a 1999 SC2.Edited by: jossis

1-Check your battery voltage; 12.5v, engine idling 13.5v, above idling 14.5v. Battery older than 4 years may be on its way out.

2-Check the battery cables for looseness, corrosion under the clamps, corrosion destroyingthe wires under the heavy insulation.

3-Is the starter the original one? It may beindicating signs ofa worn starter by the clicking.

Generally the clicking will mean one of three possibilities; battery, cables, or starter.

thanks very much for your reply.....the battery is only 2 years old, dk the
starter since I am the second owner....hopefully its a loose cable I can work
on myself....again, many thanks!

Battery is only two years old,,,,,,,,batteries last about 18 months in Arizonas heat. I'd check the battery and cables, positive cable first. Is it full of green crap? is the battery leaking?

thanks so much for your input...it turns out it was the battery. I appreciate
your suggestions.
