Hi,
I bought my first SATURN 2 weeks ago from SATURN dealer in Montreal. Model is SL 2002, 47000 km, very good condition. The only thing bodering me is the transmission's "turbine" sound at 40km/h. Above or under - sound disappiers. The car has 3 months warranty. I went to the dealer, left the car for two days, after checking they told me this was the normal sound (resonance) and couldn't repair it.
Next day I asked another Service (not dealer) for their opinion. They said the problem was with 3th gear.
Does anybody have an idea what is this sound about.
Thanks in advance.

Lyubo

Automatic or stick? My stick shift 98 SL makes a sound like you describe as the engine revs drop during the 1st-2nd shift.

Not sure what it is though. 115,000 miles.

Thanks, David!
This gives me hope for long drive! Transmission is automatic and I try not to be in this "zone" where the sound is.

I have an 1997 sl2 51,000 on it and it does the same thing. Sounds a little like the Back to The Future as they drive around the time machine...LOL My buddy at work also had a Saturn 1999 and said it is completely normal. Yes drove me crazy for awhile also.
